Review of the Junko Furuta Movie

Review of Junko Furuta Movie.

The movie based on Junko Furuta’s story is one of the most disturbing films I have ever watched. It is inspired by the real-life tragedy of a 17-year-old Japanese girl who was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered in 1989. Because of how sensitive and dark the case is, the film was bound to create controversy. Watching it feels more like witnessing human cruelty than entertainment, and that is both the strength and the weakness of the movie.

One good thing about the film is that it does not shy away from showing the raw horror of what Junko went through. The acting is powerful, and the lead actress captures the fear, pain, and hopelessness of a victim trapped in a nightmare. The movie also serves as a reminder of how cruel people can be, which makes it impactful and unforgettable. It forces viewers to think about justice, empathy, and the way society sometimes fails to protect the vulnerable.

However, there are also many problems with the film. At times, the violent scenes feel excessive and almost exploitative. Instead of focusing more on Junko as a person of her life, dreams, and personality the movie spends too much time on torture and brutality. This makes it feel less like a tribute to her and more like a shock-value horror movie. For many viewers, this can be very uncomfortable and even disrespectful to Junko’s memory.

In my opinion, the film is a hard watch and not for everyone. It does succeed in showing the cruelty of her case, but it lacks balance and sensitivity. While I understand the intention of making people aware of what happened, I think it could have been done with more care and less focus on graphic violence.
